When to Take BCAA's

BCAA's (branched chain amino acids) are proteins in the body that are essential for the proper function of other proteins. We take BCAA's as part of our exercise routine, as part of a protein shake, and even in supplements to add additional protein to our diet. However, do you know the basic advantages and disadvantages of BCAA's?

Many believe that BCAA's are better for building muscle, than any other kind of protein. They're also great for building up our immune system. Yet, BCAA's may actually have negative effects.
The first advantage of BCAA's is their ability to increase the amount of muscle mass that we build. They do this by breaking down the muscle tissue that has been built, as it comes into contact with the amino acids in the BCAA's. These amino acids get past the joints in our muscles and become available for use by the cells of our bodies. This means that if we're not taking BCAA's, our bodies won't have the nutrients necessary to complete our muscle building process.
The main disadvantage of BCAA's is that they are only available in food. This means that they must be converted into a usable form. After this conversion process, the BCAA's are no longer functional but merely useful. Because we can't take BCAA's in the form of a supplement, they have to be taken in the form of a protein shake or supplement.
When we workout, we are increasing the amount of protein in our body's structure. However, the BCAA's are needed to build up this structure.
So, when to take them is something that we should consider. However, we don't have to take them on a daily basis, but we do need to remember that there will be some disadvantages to them.
Take care to check with your doctor before you begin any form of supplementation. And when you've had some time to consider all the pros and cons, then you should probably begin to see benefits.
