India vs Eng 1st T20: Team News & Probable XI

Team News

India

Dhawan will make way for Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul will hold on to the first-choice opener's slot, confirmed Kohli on the eve of the game. In the middle of a purple patch, Pant has earned his comeback, which leaves a battle between Shreyas Iyer & Mumbai Indian's Suryakumar Yadav for the No. 4 slot.

On the bowling, Chakravarthy has failed his fitness test & will miss the series, while there are doubts over the availability of Tewatia as well. Sundar will form the spin pair with Chahal, but India could be tempted to bring in Axar as well if the conditions favor a spin-heavy attack. Bhuvneshwar could be in line for a comeback with Natarajan also tending to a niggle at the NCA in Bengaluru, and hence not available for at least the first T20. This leaves a battle between Shardul Thakur, Saini and Deepak Chahar for the two remaining slots.

Possible XI: Rohit , Rahul, Virat Kohli, Iyer/Suryakumar Yadav, Pant, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar , Shardul Thakur/Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Navdeep Saini/Axar Patel

England

England have a full-strength squad to select from & are likely to go with their best XI for the opening match. As was the case in South Africa in November, Jason Roy & Jos Buttler will continue to open with  Malan & Jonny Bairstow at 3 & 4. The major talking point in the bowling attack is whether Sam or Tom plays but it is the left-arm variety of the younger brother Sam who might get the nod.

Possible XI: Jason Roy, Buttler, Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Morgan, Stokes, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Archer, Adil Rashid
